Joe,
Thanks for the tip and website! You wrote "You need to
start the unsecured database using the same workgroup that
is securing the secured database" I modified my shortcut
to specify the user group and open the unsecured database
that way. Is that how you had in mind? I still can't
get a login window or permission to link. Is there
another way to direct the database to the workgroup? I
tried your hotmail too but it bounced.

You need to remove "SPAM2" from the address.

That is what I had in mind. Either I don't understand what you are
saying or my experience and understanding of how Access works is different
than what you are experiencing.

One thing is different in the way we work however and that could explain
the difference. I use the shortcut to open Access not the database and I
always get the password screen when it is used. Of course then I have to
open the database separately.

So if I understand correctly I should create a shortcut to
the application and specify the workgroup?

I'll try to explain what I am trying to say, and I may not be saying it
very well.

When you have an Access Database open it involves at least four files
(as I understand it).

First would be the program Access.exe or whatever it is called. This
program can be opened with out any database and it will ask you if you want
to open an existing database or create a new one.

Next when opening Access (the program) opens a Workgroup file (MDW
file). There is a default file on each machine or you may direct it to open
another one.

Next is the Database file. This is the file with your data. NAME.MDB

Last the locking file NAME.LDB

I understand you can "join" a second or more workgoup(s) after you have
the program open as well using the Workgroup Administrator functions under
the Security features under the Tools menu.
