Hi,

I have a link in db which points to (and opens) a word template (.dot).
Normally when you open a .dot, it opens a standard .doc version of the
template.

I have a link and I've typed in the address of the file location. But, when
I click on it it opens the .dot file and not the .doc

I would like the link to open the .doc version if that is at all possible?

Thanks in advance,

AW

This is probably more controlled by your OS and Word than Access. No
answer, but a couple things that might get you closer.

I can only speak for Microsoft's final good OS (XP) but this is a setting in
the "advanced" submenu in the file associations menu. Whether opening the
document means creating a new document vs. opening (the .dot) for editing.
You may want try double clicking and right click "open with" to see how your
local machine is set up. Maybe you did this already, but I considered the
possibility the maybe you've you've only done this through Word (with Word
already open) and are basing your "normally" statement on that.

Thanks Fred,

When I open a normal .dot it opens a .doc so no probs there. The advanced
button is grey'd out on this work PC so I couldn't change it even if I wanted
to! I'll speak to our IT team and see if they can do anything.

Thanks for you swift reply, much appreciated :)
