Linking spreadsheets together

Cathy

I have done loads of statistical work where I have to
gather results from a spreadsheet for each month of the
year, and this is collated in a separate worksheet.
Altogether there is one spreadsheet taking information
from 12 other sheets. I have started working for a
different company and have been asked to produce the same
kind of spreadsheet, but for some reason I cannot link any
two different spreadsheets, is there something that needs
to be changed in the settings, as we cannot find anything
that remotely looks like it could be the cause of the
problem. Please help, I have to complete this document by
the end of the month.

Thank you in advance, Cathy

What problem do you encounter when you try linking?

The easiest way of setting up such a link is to open both source and
destination workbooks. Then, in the destination workbook, start typing the
formula. When you get to the point where you want a reference to the source
workbook (which might be immediately after typing the equals sign!),
navigate to the appropriate cell in the source workbook. That way you will
get its reference with the correct syntax, which will change if you
subsequently close the source workbook.

Yes, this is exactly what I have been doing, and what I
have done before quite successfully. Only this time,
nothing happens, it doesn't recognise another spreadsheet
at all, only cells from within itself. That's why I think
there should be an option checked somewhere that isn't (or
the other way round) ??!!**

I have been fighting the same thing recently. I have been doing this the same way for ober a year, but now the method that I have always used no longer works.

Is there something that we all may need to change?
