On my Mac I had no problem linking a QT movie to a Powerpoint slide. But
when I tried using it on a PC, which has QT player installed, Powerpoint
claims that the film cannot be shown.

I suspect that it wants s plugin or something. Anybody know?

Linking to the movie or embedding? Does it work without
ppt?...on the same computer/laptop?

Linking. As in choosing "movie from file" in the "insert" menu.

The QT movie works on the Mac. It also works on the Windows machine,
when played directly in QT Player. Movie is named "LOVE2.MOV" and is in
the same catalogue/folder as the presentation. On the Mac, it simply
plays automatically when the presentation gets to the slide where I put
it. On the PC I get a blank screen, doubleclicking the slide where the
movie should be yields a message claiming that the movie cannot be
played and suggesting that it may be damaged.

Well PowerPoint DOES support my QT movie. On the Macintosh. So it should
do the same on the Windows machine, right?

Should/Shouldn't and Does/Doesn't are two different questions.

95 out of 100 sentient life forms agree that it should work the same on both
platforms.

100 out of 100 find that it doesn't.

A pity, but there it is.

I have a tendency to go overboard with stuff...because I
always think there is an "easy solution". I kind of
recommend a little more trouble shooting. (If time
permits). I wiould try a couple other .mov files (from
different sources) and see if "any of them work". I would
also try an avi for kicks and grins.
The last time I had problems with a mov was because I was
missing one codec. I figured it out, I installed it and
then it worked fine.

Errr... What is a codec? And where can I get such?
