Linking PowerPoint to Word

If I create a word document, can I link the ppt slides to the word document so they drop in automatically?

If so, what happens when the file is emailed to another person not on the same network? Are the links broken? If so, how can I prevent this from happening?

The key is relative addressing of the link instead of absolute. If you move
the original or a copy of the original Word file to the same folder as the
PowerPoint file before adding the link.
