I have a new Windows XP maching and I want to transfer
files from my Windows 95 4.00.950 B computer.
I bought a USB to USB cable to connect them and I can't
get the software that came with the cable to load in the
Win95 computer. The documentation says I need to have "Win
95 OSR2.1" or else I have to go to the Microsoft website
to find the WIN 95 USB support update file.
My questions:
How do I know if I have Win 95 OSR2.1 or some other Win 95
and,
how do I find the Win 95 USB support I (may)need on the
Microsoft website?
Thanks to anyone who can help.

To determine your version of WIN 95 go here

If you don't have the version 4.03.1212-1214 (4.00.950B) you won't be able
to use USB. Version 4.00.1111 (4.00.950B) is not upgradeable unless you
find someone with a build C. The files to upgrade are NOT available on
Microsoft's web site as this product was originally an OEM version and is
not supported by Microsoft. The only way to get it was to purchase a
computer with the proper software/hardware already installed. If your
computer has a USB port installed at the factory, you probably have a later
version of 95.

You may be able to upgrade your computer with Win 98 if you can find it on
eBay or some other "cheap" source and that would solve your problem.

Win 95's support of USB was woeful, even if you had the last version. You'll
have less aggravation if you try another method.
