Does anyone know if there is a way to automatically link
an image when you insert it? Any information would be
greatly appreciated.

Also is there a way to have this newsgroup in outlook
express?

Just click on news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.powerpoint and
an account will be automatically set up for you in OE. You'll then be able
to see all of the newsgroups on the Microsoft Server.

Can you tell us more about why you want to link images? Normally they are
embedded, but when you insert them you can go to Insert > Picture > Picture
from file and then click on the arrow on the Insert button in the lower
right corner and select "Link to File". Links to images are pretty fragile
though, so unless you need to link because the image will change but the
name will remain the same, embedding is better.

Thanks for responding, I appreciate it.

Well here's my situation:
We have a digital graphic library that all images are pulled from. I
would like to have them linked for (2) reasons:
1) So that I don't have to copy the files to the project folders
that I am working on which would use up valuable server space.
2) So that I can find the path of the original images that are
in the presentation, if I need to, for use in another presentation.

If I embed the images and try to copy paste into another presentation the
DPI drops from say 300 to 72. There is no way that I can see to extract the
images to a file so I would have no choice but to copy paste.

If I link the files not only would I get path info but if I wanted to gather
all of the images linked in the presentation, all I would have to do is a
"Pack 'n' Go".

I'm aware of the "Link to File" check box but I was hoping that there was a
variable that could be set to make that the default. I have a lot of users
that I would have to make remember to check off the box and that's something
which is very unlikely to happen.

Well I hope that explains why and once again thanks for the reply. If you
can think of anything that might help I would greatly appreciate it.

Take care,
Dave
