I created a presentation with linked files in a directory. when i play the
presentation I hear the first recorded slide but not the rest of them. Help
on making this work please

Not much information here. Which version of PowerPoint, what the type of
files are linked. How you linked them. Normally people record voice
narrations they are wav files, and are embedded into the presentation, also
one good idea is to put any linked files into the same folder as the
presentation. Makes it a lot easier to move things around without breaking
things.

I am using PowerPoint 2002. I did embedd the files the first go around and seemed to work great however the size of the presentation was too large so I re-recorded the wav files and linked them, put them in the same directory as the presentation. Now I only get the narration on the first recorede slide. Should I re record the whole thing and embedd them or can I fix this issue?

The sound files should work embedded or linked. Not knowing how you inserted
it is kind of hard to tell you what is wrong. You say the embedded file made
your presentation to large. What is the filesize?

I put all the .wav files in a folder on my desktop with the presentation. My file size was about 175 MB after converting it to a PPS. I wanted to put this on my website but it took a long time to load, my reason for going the embedded way. I am not sure how to link to the narration files but I'm in the process of going to each slide and inserting the wav file and perhaps that will give me a large file again but at least, and hopefully, work again.

You might want to look here for ways to reduce the file size.
Why are my PowerPoint files so big? What can I do about it?

Are you putting your finished product on your web site as a .pps file? Or,
are you publishing it to a web page?

I am putting the pps on the website is there a better way to have customers view the presentation?

Putting the presentation on you web site as a pps does not make it available
to all viewers. You could publish your presentation as a web page. And
upload that to your site. that way all the person needs to see the
presentation is their internet browser. I'm sure that in upcoming versions
of everything there will be options to view various products with whatever
you have installed on your system. but until then you might want to look
here, especially at the on-line example.

Thank you for your help and I did make the changes as per your instructions. I did publish my presentation to my website and changed the full screen files as you suggested, but, I still see the speaker notes and the outlines of the slides. I would like to have this available on the web but it appears I'm doing something wrong here. I will "Pack and Go" the files and if nothing else I can put them on DVD's for now. If you are interested in contacting me direct you may do so by email at (e-mail address removed) and I like to thank you for all your help unfortunately it appears I'm not ready or able to do this yet.

Can you clarify what you mean by "My file size was about 175 MB after
converting it to a PPS"? How did you "convert to PPS"?

Generally, when you record narration from within PPT and specify the files
to be linked, they're already linked to the appropriate sides. But since
you're going in and adding them manually, you can use Insert|Movies and
Sounds|Sound from File to get them into each slide. Since you want the WAVs
to be linked, make sure you have a low number (maybe 50 or 100) set in
Tools|Options|General "link sound files greater than XX kb."

Since you're okay with linked files, and you're having to add them back in
manually anyway, you might want to consider converting your WAVs to MP3s.
MP3 can't be embedded in PPT (doesn't seem to be an issue in this case), but
they're much much smaller than WAVs.

I'm just tossing out ideas....

One of the reasons you may still be seeing the outline, you need to allow
popup's for that site. Also if you could provide us with a link to your
published website would really help in getting this fixed up.
