linking excel with powerpoint

What is the best practice for generating charts in powerpoint based on data
from excel?
The excel files will be extended on a regular basis with new periods. I'm
looking for a way to establish a link between the programs, omitting the
usual cutting-and-pasting.
(VBA solutions are welcome)

If you copy the Excel content then use Edit, Paste Special and select the Link
option, it should do the trick.
