linking Excel to PowerPoint

I am preparing an auction for my community group.

I need to have a PowerPoint slide that shows the current
amount of the bid.

Ideally, I would like to have my volunteers fill out a form
that automatically updates the Power Point slide. We will
have three volunteers answering the phone and entering bid
amounts into an Excel form (which hopefully can link to the
Power Point slide). The volunteers would each have a
computer connected via a network.

Any suggestions about how to do this. I have Excel 2000 as
well as Power Point 2000.

[CRITICAL UPDATE - Anyone using Office 2003 should install the critical
update as soon as possible. From PowerPoint, choose "Help -> Check for
Updates".]

Hello,

PowerPoint does not have the capability that you are looking for
(dynamically updating slides during slide show <from external data source>)
without resorting to VBA or add-ins.

If you (or anyone else reading this message) feel strongly that PowerPoint
should provide support for dynamically updating (live?) content (without
resorting to VBA or add-ins <so that it will work in the PowerPoint
Viewer>), don't forget to send your feedback (in YOUR OWN WORDS, please) to
Microsoft at:

http://register.microsoft.com/mswish/suggestion.asp

As with all product suggestions, it's important that you not just state
your wish but also WHY it is important to you that your product suggestion
be implemented by Microsoft. Microsoft receives thousands of product
suggestions every day and we read each one but, in any given product
development cycle, there are only sufficient resources to address the ones
that are most important to our customers so take the extra time to state
your case as clearly and completely as possible.

IMPORTANT: Each submission should be a single suggestion (not a list of
suggestions).
