Linking Excel to an Access table

I linked an Excel file to build a new Access table (File.GetExternal
Data>Link tables.

I can change the data in the Excel file and the changes take effect in the
table, but Access won't allow me to change the data in the table. Nothing
happens. I get an audible, but no message telling me what is wrong.

How do I resolve this?

Hi Matt,

This is normal if you are using Access 2002 or Access 2003: in an update
last year, Microsoft removed the ability to update linked Excel sheets
(to comply with a legal ruling in a patent case).

The work-rounds are (a) import instead of linking, update the data in
Access, and export the result to a new worksheet; or (b) use VBA and
automation to write the changed data into the worksheet cells.

Thanks for the info, John.
