Hello all,
Here is my question. I would like to link an
imported table from Excel, to the same Excel document.
Reason for this is, that I would like to update the Excel
document using the Access table from a form. I have tried
this with linking and I get errors that I cannot open the
table, and I also cannot open the Excel doc, once I enter
data in access. Each one will not open, after entering
data. I was hoping to be able to link the table and the
Excel spreadsheet, if I imported the spreadsheet, created
the data base, and then link the Excel spreadsheet in
someway to have that updated as I enter data. Sorry I if I
am talking in circles, but I am at my wits end here...I am
new to Access, so I ask for your patiences..thanks ahead
of time

I'm sorry, but what you describe isn't making sense to me. Are you saying
you've imported the data from an EXCEL spreadsheet, and then want to link to
that spreadsheet? I don't understand why you need to do that, as you could
just link to the spreadsheet and modify its data directly. What are you
trying to accomplish?

I've done this. It's simply a matter of linking the
spreadsheet and then using it as you would normally use a
table. The problem occurs when the spreadsheet is not set
up for sharing. Open the spreadsheet and go into
tools/sare workbook and change the setting.

Be warned that when you make changes from Access the
change tracking in Excel will not work. I just found that
out the hard way today. I made a bunch of changes via
Access and then closed the app. My co-worker had the
spreadsheet open before I made my changes, and when she
saved it she was not informed that I had made any changes
and overwrote my work. We have now turned sharing off to
avoid two people working on it at the same time.
