How do you copy linked or embed sound files from the clip
organizer so that it can be saved (and played) on a CD?
Nothing I found on the web site/office assistant seemed to
help.

Thanks.

Answer: Depends. The new version of PowerPoint has a
feature under File called Package for CD - this copies
the .ppt and all related files on to a CD (or can be used
for floppies & other media).

Well, the only sound file which will be embedded into PPT is a WAV file. And
those will only be embedded if they're smaller than the size specified in
Tools/Options/Link Sound Files Greater Than XXX KB.

So, before you insert your WAV sound, go to Tools/Options and put 50000 in
that box. Thereafter, any WAV you insert which is under 50MB will be
embedded.

Next, know that because other sound files are linked, inserting them via
Clip Organizer is a recipe for disaster. Because PPT remembers that link to
the sound file even if you move your files to a different computer, you'd
have to recreate that same directory structure in order for PPT to find the
sound on the other machine.

Your best solution here would be to use the Clip Organizer to find where the
clip lives on your computer and then navigate to that folder and copy the
sound file and paste it into the folder along with your presentation. Once
the sound and presentation are in the same folder, use Insert/Movies and
Sounds/Sound from File to insert the sound file.

Then when you move the presentation to another computer, be sure to send the
sound file along with it. Copy the files to the same folder on the target
computer, and you should be in good shape.
