Hello! I use AOL Instant messenger.
There are other sites that sometimes show a friends instant messenger name,
and you can click on it to pull up the instant messenger program.

When I copy and paste that link into the notes portion of the users name, it
will actually post the link into the notes. Later when I open the contact, I
can actually click on their link and it will open the instant messenger
window for them in AOL Instant Messenger.

There is an IM Field in Outlook contact mgr. When I paste the link into
there, it only shows up in there as text, not as a link.

My purpose or goal, is that I like to show all of my contacts in the
category view, so that i can see many of them all at one time, and each field
shows as a column. For example, when i see all my friends listed, i can
easily click on their emal addresss right in that view without having to open
their contact card up, and the link that shows will open an email box to send
them an email.

I want to do the same thing for an aol instant messenger handle. When i
show the names in the notes field, as a column in the category view, it shows
up only as text in the notes field despite the fact that itll show up as a
link when i double click and open the contact card.

Any suggestions???

the IM field is for Windows messenger only. Do you know the code used for
the aim link? The web pages probably use an href for it: <a
href="aim:goim?screenname">Click Here to IM me</a> If aim is registered in
windows, it might hyperlink in the web address field, but I don't have AIM
installed to know for sure.

yes this is the html code, but i tried to drop it into the IM field and it
wont work
Is there something i have to do to the field to allow it to accept html?

<p><a HREF="aim:goim?screenname=emilyc315"><u><font
COLOR="#0000ff">emilyc315</font></u></a></p>

Like i was saying before too, the link works in the notes field, except when
in the category view, it only shows it as text only.. I really want to be
able to see it in that view as a link, no matter what field i have to use for
it!
thanks again

if aim:goim?screenname=screen_name doesn't work, then I don't know of a way
to make it work. Pasting into the Notes field pastes the rendered HTML - but
you need a url format OL recognizes in the other fields - like http://,
ftp:// and file://
