Linked tables

Hi.
I have a Form for customers.
A form for Orders and a subform for Products.
In the Customers form I've put a command button to open the Orders form.
It asks if any of the field need to be linked so I made customerID in both
forms link up and then finished the wizard.
The button works and opens the Orders form but the customerID field is
empty.
I don't want the user to have to retype in the customers name.
Otherwise surely there's no point in putting in the open form command
button. You may as well close the customer form and open Orders form.
What am I missing here please!
