Linked Tables After Compact

I have an ACC2000 application that uses linked tables...
After a Compact/Repair is run on a Windows 2000 machine
the linked tables are not available <Database already in
use by another user ...>

When I copy and rename the database the tables are
available.

It only happens when the compact is done on a Windows
2000 machine.

Any ideas on how to keep from having to copy and rename?
