About 4 months ago our database manager set up a Microsoft
Access front end on my computer that could interact with a table in a Sybase
backend database. If I open the Design Master / Tables section, I see the
linked table and it has a very fancy icon (arrow into a globe with a yellow
ball to the right of the globe with two circular arrows within), and the
following description appears under type, "Table: Linked ODBC (Replicated)"
When I open the table I get an error message because the structure of the
backend table changed about 3 months ago.
To overcome the problem I simply went through the process of linking the
table again (File / Get external Data / Link Tables). Everything works now.
However I have noticed two differences and I do not know the implications
thereof. The icon is now without the yellow ball and the table type
description is "Table: Linked ODBC (Local)."
What on earth is the difference between these two setups and how did it
occur?
