I am linking pictures in PowerPoint, rather than embeding them to decrease file size. However I am not able to go into the Edit/Links tool to edit my links. Thus once an image or Powerpoint is moved, I am unable to re-link the files. I am also unable to change the link to point to a new source.

Yes. PowerPoint's link editing only applies to OLE links. Picture links
are simple pointer-to-filename links; there's no user-accessible control
over them other than by writing VBA to edit them.

The free demo of our FixLinks add-in will convert picture links to pathless
ones that won't break so easily. www.pptools.com for info,

you need to do, enjoy! Free!

Our StarterSet Plus upgrade includes a tool that lets you edit links and
more.

Hello,

PowerPoint does not have the specific capability that you are looking for
although, as others have shown there VBA and add-in workarounds.
Specifically, PowerPoint only provides a link management user interface for
linked OLE objects (not for other linked content).

If you (or anyone else reading this message) think that PowerPoint should
provide better content management tools for finding, changing, replacing,
deleting, etc. linked and embedded content (without have to resort to VBA
or 3rd party add-ins), don't forget to send your feedback to Microsoft at:

As with all product suggestions, it's important that you not just state
your wish but also why it is important to you that your product suggestion
be implemented by Microsoft. Microsoft receives thousands of product
suggestions every day and we read each one but, in any given product
development cycle, there are only sufficient resources to address the ones
that are most important to our customers so take the extra time to state
your case as clearly and completely as possible.

IMPORTANT: Each submission should be a single suggestion (not a list of
suggestions)

As a possible solution to some of the link problems mentioned in this
thread, I might suggest looking at the 3rd party utility product
called LinkFixerPlus (www.linkfixerplus.com).

While I do not know of any one program that can solve every problem in
the fairly tricky area of PowerPoint links, I have found this program
to be useful. It can generate reports on and even update OLE links,
hyperlinks, picture links and other links in a presentation when any
of the files it links to have been moved or renamed.
