Has anyone run into a problem with office 2002 where
whenever you try to print a powerpoint file that his links
in it (to excel), it will try to open and update each and
every link before it will print? I have quite a few links
in my files and never had this problem with office 2000.
Any ideas for a fix?

thank you.

Open the presentation, choose Edit, Links. Set all the links to Manual instead
of Automatic update. Save the presentation.

That should do it, I think.

I actually already have all links set to manual, and that
works fine in Powerpoint 2000. In Powerpoint 2002 it
apparently opens each linked file in the background and
when I go to print the file, it tries to reopen each link
again even though it already has them open. All this
while the links are set to manual. So much for manual in
powerpoint 2002 I guess. I had to switch back to 2000 I
was having so much trouble.

Thanks for the suggestion though.

Are the links to charts or Word/Excel content?
I wonder if it's trying to update the OLE references to the latest office
version?

Try letting it update once, check that the links are set to manual, then save
as a new presentation. See if it then continues to act up.
