I am linking data from a source spreadsheet to
a "destination" spreadsheet. The links have been set up
and files saved. The source file has since been sorted,
and now the destination file is jumbled. It appears that
the links are not following the data as it is sorted.

What would affect this? I need the link to reamin with
the original cell even if the spreadsheet is sorted.

Hi Deb
this is (unfortunately) not possible. The links refer to a cell and not
to a specific content.

Is there a way to accomplish the same thing?

Hi
depeneds on what you're trying to achieve. Can you provide more details
about the design of both sheets?

I'm sorry, yes I can.

The source sheet is a listing of all of the projects
being worked in our department. It provides a snapshot
of critical dates, statuses...etc. Depending on the
audience, this spreadsheet will need to be sorted
differently for each meeting.

The destination sheet would reflect only a portion of the
projects, but much of the same data as is tracked for
each in the original. This is used for a weekly
departmental publication.

Our intent for the sake of time and accuracy is to have
one spreadsheet maintained and draw the information from
there.

Thanks Frank!

Hi

have you considered using advanced filters / filters for creating a
subset of your information?
If you only want to put specific project on a separate sheet try the
following (I assume you have a unique project identifier for each
project in column A):
- in your sub-sheet MANUALLY enter the project numbers of relevance for
your sub-reporting in column A
- now use VLOOKUP. e.g. in B1 enter
=VLOOKUP(A1,'master_sheet'!$A$1:$G$1000,2,0)
to carry over column B of your mastersheet. Now even if you sort your
mastersheet, column B will reflect the correct values. See
http://www.mvps.org/dmcritchie/excel/vlookup.htm
for more information about VLOOKUP
