Linked buttons don't display

On some web sites I am unable to see buttons that provide links or actions.
I have tried various setting changes, but I am not sure IE is even the
problem at this point.

For example, on an Adobe website I am unable to see the shopping cart or a
button used to download software.

I am using IE 6.0.2900.2180.xpsp_sp2, running XP Pro, have McAffee
installed. Can anyone provide me with suggestions?

Do you have either the Microsoft VM or the Sun Java Runtime installed?
Some buttons are Java applets and won't display (or work) if Java is not
installed. Do you have a URL we can test?

Control Panel - Add/Remove Programs; in my program files and in
addins for IE). I am not sure what you mean by a URL to test, but if
you mean a web site where I couldn't see the links - this is the one
I have had trouble with:

As far as I can tell (which isn't very far), the page does not use Java. It
uses JavaScript, something entirely different.

1. You might want to refresh your scripting engine:

Sometimes there's a corrupt file in the cache and one must go to Tools |
Internet Options and click Delete Files.

2a. Start>Run>Regsvr32 vbscript.dll

2b. Start>Run>Regsvr32 jscript.dll

(WinXP users who have problems with 2a and 2b, see

3. Re-register all DLLs listed in http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=281679

5a. IE Tools>Internet Options>Advanced>Browsing>Enable third-party browser
extensions (uncheck & reboot).

5b. Find the hijacker that caused 5a to be checked (or if none were checked,
