This doesn't happen all the time, but often enough that it's frustrating
because I can't view many things. It happens alot when I'm shopping and
clicking on the link of an item that I want to view. Could this be pop-up
blocking or some setting of mine that is causing this?

Thanks!

Hi Kim :-)

You don't mention the version of Windows you are using so I can only guess
at a suggestion. Try the following and see if it helps:

Go to Start>Run> and register the following dll's by using
regsvr32 command. Try the first 2, then see if it resolves the problem. If
not then register the rest of the .dll's:

regsvr32 urlmon.dll
regsvr32 actxprxy.dll
regsvr32 scrrun.dll
regsvr32 msxml.dll
regsvr32 mshtml.dll
regsvr32 shdocvw.dll
regsvr32 browseui.dll
regsvr32 msjava.dll

You can update your scripting engine. For 2000 and XP go to
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...43-7e4b-4622-86eb-95a22b832caa&DisplayLang=en
The install includes a new jscript.dl

also

Go to http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/download.html.
Download J2SE v 1.4.2_06 JRE. (Make sure you get the JRE file, not the SDK
file, unless you are a software developer).
Install it.

If that doesn't work, then check out the following article and do the
additional steps outlined there:

These are probably being blocked by a HOSTS file or a program setup to block
ads.

To check the HOSTS file...
Make sure that Windows is showing hidden files and is
not hiding file extensions for known file types then check for a HOSTS file
at [C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc] Open the HOSTS file with notepad. If
there are entries you wish to disable, you can put the pound sign (#) in
front an entry to disable it. Then File> Save. Or you can rename the HOSTS
file to HOSTS.OLD to disable it.

Check the settings of any security, privacy, ad-blocking programs that are
running. One of them may be blocking this content because it looks or acts
like ads.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, Jan - I tried all of your suggestions, but none of them have solved
the problems. I'm using Windows XP, Service Pack 2 and IE 6.0, SP 2. Can
you think of anything else I can try?

Thanks!!

Perhaps. What popup blocker do you have in effect?
Have you tried temporarily bypassing it (e.g. click a link
while holding down a Ctrl- key?)

I have Norton Internet Security and I turned off the pop-up blocking, but
that didn't work. I also turned off pop-up blocking in the Internet Tools
options for Explorer; that didn't work either. I just tried holding down the
Ctrl key and clicking on the link, but that didn't work either.

The site I'm using for testing this is: www.lillianvernon.com
I click on any area, for instance the "Decorate" box.
Then I click on any specific item, for instance the Cordless Lighted Wreath
Then I click on the "Zoom/Larger Image" words under the picture
Then window opens momentarily, then immediately closes

Thanks,
Kim

Thank you for the clear example.

When the window is opening do you have enough time to press Ctrl-N?
That would allow you to clone the popup window and do things with it
such as inspect its source or perhaps get more clues by trying to use it.

Having done that I can see that the condition of your Flash Player
may be as significant as anything. And of course in order to use that
you would have to have Active-X enabled, etc. (e.g. use Default Level
Security options in the Internet zone).

In fact, the source shows that there is provision for prompting a user
who does not have adequate Flash Player support; so you would probably
get a different symptom by removing your current Flash Player and letting
that prompt and download, etc. occur.

Alternatively here is the link for the main content of the page.

http://s7ondemand1.scene7.com/is-vi...rchEngineURL=/s7search/search&waitIconTimer=2

Notice that that is all one string (in case it gets broken by our various news
readers). I think it is odd seeing other URLs in there not at least with
special characters escaped but it seems to work. E.g. pasting that
link into an IE window and pressing Enter results in essentially the same
page being displayed.

Thanks,
Kim
