Suddenly, attempts to link to .pdf files fail. IE 6.0 SP1
displays a blank page with a little placeholder icon
instead of displaying the requested Portable Document
Format (.pdf) file.
This worked earlier today and always before today.
However, I am able to save the file to disk using
the "Save target as..." option when rick-clicking on the
link.

Hi Sheldon,

1) In Acrobat Reader, go to Edit > Preferences > Options, and make sure "show pdf in Browser" and
"Check browser settings..." are checked.

2) In Internet Explorer, go to Internet Options/Advanced, and make sure that "Enable third party
browser extensions" is checked.

3) Make sure ActiveX is not set to "disabled": In Internet Options > Security > Internet, hit
"Default Level", and click OK.

If no joy, reinstall or update Adobe Acrobat Reader.

Hi TonyKlein,

Thanks for your help. All my settings were already as you
suggested they ought to be. Your final suggestion worked.
The secret was to remove and then reinstall ("repair")
Acrobat Reader 6. I remember now what caused this:
deleting an "extra" Acrobat Reader 6 icon from the
desktop. Acrobat is very unforgiving if you do this.
