I want to set up a table link to an Excel s/s but there are two date-
formatted columns that Access isn't setting up as date and giving error
message and setting up as text. The way I understand it is that if you have
just one cell that's not populated with a date, then Access won't set up that
field with DATE format in the linked table - how do I format on Excel side to
force Access to make the date format.

Any help would be greatly appreciated...

I have tried formatting columns in Excel in hopes Access would accept the
field type when linking. In my experience, Access makes it's own decisions
on what the data types should be.

One solution would be to save the spreadsheet in csv format. Then you can
go through the linking process once by hand. When you get to the wizard,
click advanced and you will be able to define field names, data types, etc.
Once you have it set up like you want it, click Save As and give it a name.
Then you can use the TransferText method and specifiy the file specification
you defined to do the link and the data types should be correct.

Klatu - thanks - but can that be done via macro ? That's what I'm trying to
do... I'll try it
