Link to comma delimited text files/Read Only

Just up-dated from Windows ME & Office97 to Windows XP &
Office 2000 Premium. Now when I link to text files,Link
Text Manager box "Cannot update. Database or object is
Read Only. Hit OK and get, An error occured trying to
link to file********, The link was not created. Click on
properties attributes are shaded,but archive is checked
just like in Office 97. Right click on Properties when
linking to file Read Only box has light green square
inside. Same response either converting 97 database or
trying to create new.

There are many possible reasons for this error message. I often get this
error when there is an extra "." character in the path name; for example, if
the file is named "Test.File.txt", ACCESS can choke on that name -- I get
around this by changing the name to something like "Test_File.txt".
