Link to another Word document?

I have a Word document that I'd like to link from other documents. Instead
of permanently inputed to it, I'd like it to be linked so editing in that
document would reflect in all the other documents.

Is there a way to do that?

Use an IncludeText field. This is created automatically if you use Insert |
File: Insert as Link.

Tried that. Insert as Link is in pull-down menu. I did that the text
imported is in grey when you place the mouse over, but the text updated
from the linked document never get updated. You can update the linked
area but it does not reflect on the linked document either. So basically,
it's like import. Once imported, it's in the document. File size is the
same as one with text inside. No update to either documents either.

So, any other way. Hyperlink actually works better. I control-click on
it, it opens the document in separate window. It would be nice if all
content shows up in the same window.

BTW, I'm using Word 2002 (from Office XP)

The gray shading just shows that it is a field. If you change the target
file and save it, then explicitly update the field (using F9), the included
text does not update?

Thanks for the help. F9 updates it. It's one way though. Can I edit on the
linked fields and have it updated on the original file? If not, it's
confusing you can edit on the gray fields but when you F9 it, they are all
gone.

When you press F9, you are updating the field in your document from the
content in the target document. If you want the link to work both ways, I
think you have to insert the file as an OLE object.
