Link Outlook to IE (but different)

Hi,
searched, found and tried all solutions for problems with "links in MS
Outlook message not opening in IE"

Situation: I click on a link in an email received with Outlook 2002
SP-2

But my problem is different:
- when MSIE 6.0 is not opened, the click will open IE and will go to
the URL of the link
BUT:
- when IE is already open, the click will bring forward IE with the
present URL but will NOT go to the URL of the link that is clicked.

In reverse, link in IE will open 'new message' in MS Outlook, no
problem here...

So how can I solve this problem?
Please let me know here or at poosten(no@spam)planet.nl

regards,
Paul Oosten

(Sorry, I posted by google and I'm thinking the reply would not be
published in this thread)

You wrote:
"Re-registering all the DLLs listed in this KB article should fix it
now:

I tried them all but one doesn't work: Msjava.dll
I get the message: "Loadlibrary ("Msjava.dll") failed - The specified
module could not befound."

Indeed, Msjava.dll is not on my harddisk.
So what can I do, where can I find that file?

Please include all of the previous message in your replies, Paul.

It sounds like you're running WinXP-SP1a. Assuming re-registering all the
other DLLs didn't clear things up, start solving this MSJava.dll problem
here:

http://www.mvps.org/inetexplorer/answers_9.htm

Then try re-registering VBscript.dll and Jscript.dll, too.

OK, we continue ..
I'm running Windows XP Proffesional Build 2600 xpsp2.030422-1633
(Service Pack 1)

- I've done everything on
http://www.mvps.org/inetexplorer/answers_9.htm (started with error
message on cmd -> jview). Now I've got version 5.00.3810

- Continued to http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=281679 and had
success with all the regsvr32's, even Msjava.dll (also with your
proposed VBscript & Jscript)

- Checked all the mensioned HKLM's and they're OK.
and as far as I know I don't have IEAK for IE 6.0

And the problem is still there. First click in MS Outlook opens a
window and goes to the URL, second click ...nothing.

So? Reinstalling IE now? How do you do that? Overwrite it?
Or do you have one more idea to suggest?

regards (and thankfull for your patience),
PaulO

Recap: Hyperlinks in Outlook don't load in IE *if and only if* an instance
of IE is already open.

I've been presuming:

- IE Tools>Internet Options>Advanced>Browsing>"Reuse windows for launching
shortcuts" is unchecked. If you check/enable this, do the links open?

- IE is chosen as the default browser (IE Tools>Internet Options>Programs>IE
should check to see...) and no other browsers (e.g., Netscape) have ever
been installed.

Otherwise...

I would back-up all data, including Office/Outlook; Uninstall MS Office;
Repair or Reinstall all components of IE
(http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=318378) & reboot; Reinstall MS Office
2002 and test hyperlinks prior to installing any Office/OL SPs.

Note: Your anti-virus application and all other running processes must be
closed before performing any of the steps outlined in Q318378.

OK, first, after the established situation of things done yesterday:
now I get when opening a site:
Onstall on demand (Other): download and install Java Virtual Machine.
I think I need to do that, but I will ckick 'cancel' untill you say
so.

-Checking or unchecking "Reusse windows..." has no influence on the
behaviour.
-Yes, IE is chosen to be the default browser.
- sorry, but I have 2 netscapes installed (NN 4.7 NN 7.1) to see my
webdesigns in these browsers (you know what a bitch 4.7 can be).

So, I hold off on removing Office etc. untill you read this and give
some respons.

Paul, will you *please*configure Agent to include *all* of the previous
message in replies here (or stop editing it)? It's tedious having to open
previous posts to see our history here. Thank you.

This thread so far: http://snurl.com/39wu.

I still think you're running WinXP-SP1a, due to the "install Java Virtual
Machine" prompt. Start here:

http://www.mvps.org/inetexplorer/answers_9.htm

Once you have VM 3810 installed, you may also need to (re-)install 5.6
Scripting Engine:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/downloads/list/webdev.asp
[For WinXP, choose the Win2K link]

You *may* need to uninstall both Netscape versions in order for hyperlinks
in an OL message to open in IE.

That is all. Over & out.
