When I go to start and click on Internet Explorer at the top of the list of
programs available instead of that link opening the program to my 'home page'
it opens the internet options. I don't know what caused this change nor do I
know how to change it back to a link to open the program. Can anyone tell me
what might have happened and how to fix it.
I don't know why but I'm experiencing some strange happenings on this system
today. I sure hope it's not an indication that my hard drive is getting ready
to crash again.
I appreciate the help I get from the newsgroups. Thanks.

Rightclick the shortcut and correct the Properties.
Mine has:
"C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe"
What does yours have?

Mine has 'INTERNET PROPERTIES' in bold and then it has remove from this list.
That's the only 2 choices available when I right click on it.

Ahh... you are using XP with the standard Start menu while I use the
Classic.
If I change to standard, mine has 3 choices.
'Browse the Internet' (bold)
'Internet Properties'
'Remove from This List'

Try removing it from the list and then adding it again.
You can add it by right-clicking the Start button selecting
Properties.
Click Customize.
In the 'Show on Start Menu' area, put a check mark in 'Internet' and
ensure 'Internet Explorer' is showing in the box to the right.

You might post in an XP newsgroup if the above is unclear.

Thanks! It's back to normal now. What do you mean standard or classic start
menu? I didn't know there was a way to change it. What is the difference in
the two and how do you make changes like that?

You can change exactly where you were.
Right-click the Start button and select Properties and you have two
options. 'Start Menu' or 'Classic Start Menu'

Try both and you can see the differences between them.
