I use Office 2000 and Windows ME

I am trying to change my set up in PowerPoint. when I go to tools, options,
general, it is currently set to link sounds with file size greater than 100
kb. I want to change this to 350 kb. No problem until I hit OK. I get a
message telling me the path name for d: is invalid. Please check that the
path and file names are correct. It is obvious to me that it can not be in
d: but I do not know where it should be. Any ideas on how I find this out?

thanks

I don't quite understand what's happening, I guess because it's not quite
obvious to me what cannot be in D and why.

Anyway, assuming that you are indeed getting this error when you click OK to
close down Tools/Options, check the Save tab in Tools/Options. Does your
default file location specify D drive? If so, change to somewhere on your C
drive instead.

Does it matter where on the C drive I save it? Is there a certain location
that it should be for it to be?

The D drive is for writing CD's, not the hard drive so should I didn't think
this was where it should be going, but when I hit save, it pops up as
D:\easy share\
thanks

It doesn't matter where you set your default save location to (this is the
default location for saving files...nothing to do with your linked sounds),
as long as the location exists. For example, if you keep your presentations
in a folder on your C: drive called presentations, set the default save
location to c:\presentations. As long as that location exists you shouldn't
get that error message.

You mean for your default file location? Nah, it doesn't matter where on the
C drive that goes, really; just make sure it's easy for you to find later. A
folder in My Documents might be a good choice.

Also, that \easy share\ part makes me think your D drive has been set up as
a "direct CD" drive. That means it is supposed to act like a regular
drive -- you are supposed to be able to just save directly to it as you
would with a regular drive. Thing is, saving directly to these "direct CD
drives" is notorious for corrupting PPT files, and I wouldn't trust them
with other type files, either. So if you are saving anything directly to
that D drive, stop doing that. Instead, save to your regular hard drive (C,
in your case) and then use your CD burning software or Windows XP's CD
burning capability to burn to the CD.

Just a word to the wise.
