Since getting useful reports (including comment detail on communications
history) isn't possible, can I link to a BMC database from Access to get
better reports as well as update data in BMC?????

Yes, I've done this.

BCM databases are hosted by Sql Server, and Access can act as a front
end to Sql Server databases. Be sure to run Access as the same user
that runs BCM to avoid permissions issues. And when you start looking
for the data you want in the database, start with the views instead of
the tables. The views tend to have data organized the same way you see
them in BCM, so they'll be more familiar.

I don't see why not if IIS has permission, but it might be troubling
to have IIS running with the same credentials as a BCM user. Should
someone hack into an ASP page, they could then have access to all the
BCM data.
