Are there any film scanners which scan a line at at time? The ones I'm
familiar with use an area sensor. I'm not talking about flat bed scanners
for reflective media which are adapted for film scanning but real film
scanners.

Thanks,

Charles,

I think most of the popular scanners for 35mm film are in fact line
scanners. My Canon Canoscan FS4000 certainly is, and as far as I know
the popular models from Nikon and Konica-Minolta are too. I'm curious
to hear about the area scanners to which you are referring.

What scanners are you familiar with, then?

I've used lots of film scanners and all of those using
CCDs have been what you would call "line scanners."

The only exceptions I know of are drum scanners,
which scan a single spot at time.

The Kodak RFS scanners were/are matrix scanners, as well.
