Line-out

This is really dumb..last week my computer muted the line-out ..I am running
windows xp. After an hour of searching why I had no sound I found line-out
and unmuted it...it works now..

My question is how to I go back and find the line-out again in case it ever
does this again. I've looked for an hour and can't find line out..
 
start/run, type sndvol32
The Options menu/Properties can have a scrolling list to checkmark with Line
Out on it. OK, If you dot the 'recording' radio button, and OK, you can also
see the input features.
