Line counter numbers in MS Access Reports for more than two group

G.A.WANI

I have a problem using MS-Access Report. The matter was brought to your
notice earlier as well but no help or guidance was provided. This has put us
to great inconvenience and I am looking for alternatives if I am again
avoided.
Problem: I have constructed a “Report†in MS-ACCESSâ€. I have added two
“Groups†in it. In “Detail Sectionâ€, I require three separate line counters
with the start of every data group including general counter. I create line
counters with the help of “Text Boxâ€. In the “Properties†of first general
“line counter†I use “Over allâ€. In the “Properties†of next “line
counter†I use “Running Sum†over group but there is no mention of group name
anywhere. The third “line counter†is created again as per procedure adopted
while created second group line-counter. Since there is no mention of group
name anywhere, 2nd and 3rd group counter prints the same line numbers.
Since I require different line counter numbers for each group, the MS-ACCESS
has perhaps limitation. However, general counter is created on “Overall†but
separate group counters are not created except one. This may kindly be
clarified to me .

First, you need to understand that this group is hosted by Microsoft but is
manned by volunteers who are not MS employees and is not normally monitored by
Microsoft. That means your complaint may never be seen by anyone at
Microsoft. You need to lodge your complaint elsewhere or pay MS for a support
incident.

As to your problem. Running sum over group applies to the location where the
control is located. So if your control is in the detail section, the
immediately prior group is the group that the running sum is calculated for.

If the control is in a group, then the group immediately prior to it
constitutes the group in sum is calculated for.

In both cases if there is no prior group then running sum will calculate over
the entire report (the equivalent of Over All)

PERHAPS you can solve your problem by putting one of the running sum controls
in the second group of your two groups and referring to that control's value
in another control in your detail section.

I can't suggest any more detail than that since I don't fully understand what
you are doing. Something like the following

In the Second group
Control Name: Group2Control
Control Source: =1
Running Sum over group

In the Detail section
Control Name: txtRefGroup2Control
Control Source: =[Group2Control]
