line appears in scan

When I use the ADF of the HP5610, I get a black line down the middle
of the page.
Is there any thing I can do to eliminate this?

Warren has suggested you clean the scanner glass.
Specifically with a scanner that has an ADF the glass you need to clean is
immediately beneath the ADF assembly and is quite narrow maybe only 1.5 to 2.0
cm wide but runs right under the ADF. If you lift up the scanner cover you will
see the glass. There may only be a small dot of something on the glass, do not
assume there will be a line across it. Clean it with a good window cleaner and
if there is something stubborn you can usually scrape it off with a fingernail
but with great care.
