I am just curious if anyone has tried LindowsO2 operating system. If
so, did or do you like it?

LindowsOS works pretty well. It's great for everyday webbrowsing, email,
newsgroups and IM.

You can get a free copy of LindowsLive (runs 100% off the cd, no install
needed) to try out at:
http://www.lindows.com/p2p

If you want to buy the full LindowsOS, use coupon code P2Ppays for $25 off.

I hope this was helpful.

Anyone with a peer-to-peer client (such as bittorrent) and a cd burner
can download and burn LindowsLive.

In other words, yes you can downlaod it using Windows98. However, you
will need a cd burner to burn the cd image to CD.

Once the CD is burned, reboot your computer. Your computer should boot
off of the CD. Presto - Lindows Live!

It is an example how flexible GNU/Linux is - you even can create a
rubbish thing like Lindows.
Do not even try it.

Okay, I won't, if you say so. But then how do I run my Windoze programs?
Some I've spent money on, others I'm just used to, but I don't want to give
them up.

Ciao,

You can try using Wine to run your Windows programs in Linux. Otherwise,
well, um, software make a great gift for relatives! ;)

Lindows does not promise you to run windows-apps it says something like:
programs like those you are used to under windows...
After all you can try wine (or if you are able to: winex)

Lindows is just a real bad made Linux, try the standard distries, they
are better by far (Mandrake, Debian).

I'd never heard of Wine. I'll go check it out. Thanks.

Or go here for a code that will get you the Developer edition download
- FREE (ends Feb 24th)
http://www.nvu.com/landing_page.html

Though as others have said, it's not a particularly great
implementation of Linux - the main "feature" seems to be the
"click and buy" software library.

There is apparently some seriously insecure stuff in a default Lindows
installation, so Windows users should feel right at home!

Makes life interesting....
Who wants an OS you can actually count on.....

<sigh>

I went to the site & got the developers edition, but when I go to download
the image I get a directory full of files! Is the actual code to download
&then have to compile it? I had 4.0 full version & except for long boot
times, I thought it was a great way to get one "feet wet." I tried
installing Mandrake 7.0 several years ago & had enough problems that I gave
up. 4.0 even installed on my Compaq EVO N1000V laptop without a hitch,
something I understand is unheard of for Linux.

Just my 2 cents worth!

Brian,

I too have never had any luck with the various "official" Linux
versions... probably because I'm way to old to be learning knew
stuff and no desire to "re-invent the wheel".

Having said that, I was determined to give it one more try so, following
the sage advice given at http://www.nvu.com/landing_page.html, I managed
to download the LindowsOS Delveloper's Edition v4.5 mentioned in this
thread (THANKS). After a VERY long time (I was number 480 in queue),
then the additional time required to download a 560mb file, I finally
got it. The only file you get is the LindowsOS....ISO file, which you
then burn to a CD.

It installed without a hitch, without asking me if I wanted KDE, XYZ nor
a bunch of other alphabetical stuff(please forgive me Linux Lovers)!

Once installed, it ran quite well for us non-technical DOS bred folks.

You are correct about it's LONG boot (and shutdown) time... much like
you get with WindowsXP.

Again... you only get one file (ISO) that you burn to a CD using your
favorite burning program (I use CDRWin mostly).

I think you clicked the wrong download link, you might have accidentally
clicked the link to download the source code. :/

At the My.Lindows site
1. Login
2. Click on My Products
3. Click CD Downloads
4. Click LindowsOS 4.5 Developers Installation CD
5. You will then be entered into the download queue
