Is there a way to restrict how much time my children are on the computer each
day? I have parental controls set up which controls the content and can
control when they get on but not for how long.

Generally it's called "parenting" -- You set down the rules and if they
exceed them, you punish them (take away the computer, or some other
privilege)

Hi Kirsten,

This is something which is actually quite easy to do. What you need to do is
to create a new account for your children to use. You can then set
restrictions on that account to allow them to do as much or as little as you
like. This includes time restrictions (note that this restriction is in whole
hours to the hour) - your children won't be able to login if they try to
outside the hours that you allow them and they will be automatically logged
out when the time period expires. In addition to this, you can restrict their
browsing activities and also restrict the programs that they can run. These
settings can be found under 'Parental Controls' in the 'User Accounts and
Family Safety' section in the control panel.

Microsoft missed this most important part out of parental controls.
Maybe the programmers do not have children.

A good solution is KidsWatch time control program from
http://www.kidswatch.com/ The standard version does what you want and a
lot more.

Maybe you haven't looked closely at the settings? You can set time
limits when they can get on and when they must log off. The computer
won't work past a certain time of time for them, handy to keep kids from
staying up past their bedtime. You can't set number of minutes of use,
but you can prevent them from using it past a certain time of time.

I have the desktop setup to limit my daughter so she can't use it before
5pm and after 9pm, but all day on Sat and Sun. It's also limited so she
can't get on till the next morning so she can't sneak around when I'm
sleeping.

I have set up parental controls....my son is a standard, not admin, time
limits, etc. How do I block the control panel because the time zone is being
changed so he can STAY ON THE COMPUTER even though his time limit is up. On
his account, the window pops up for password to allow time change so I don't
know how he is doing this but the time zone is changed. Anyone with ideas,
please let me know.

Sounds like he knows the password. Did you pick a common one, like the
name of a pet, or something else that is easy to guess? Or has he
watched as you logged in one day?

It's surprising how often people pick really common passwords. I've seen
network admins who used "god" as their password! They deserve to be
hacked...hahaha...
