I need to know if there is any way of permitting a limited user account to
use certain programs that generally cannot be used - e.g real player -
putting music onto cd/ipod etc. It is causing problems as my step-daughter
always has to use my account which is not always convenient. Thanks.

It depend on what version of XP you have?.
If you have XP pro you can do this through the GPO by opening the run
command and type in:
gpedit.msc click [OK] and locate the user account and try to ad to it
the programs or select it to have access to that program if it listed, you
need to have Admin Privileges to do so.

or Copy that program to that user programs or folder like though:
C:\Documents and Settings\Nass <limited account>\Programs =
Internet explorer
Windows Media Player
XP Office
New added Programs:
Real Player
Star War game
Outlook
Ipod/itune
Quick Time
