Just started using a limited user account for the first time. One
difference now is that where I used to get a graphic showing how full
the ink cartridges are, they aren't there any more (but continue to
work fine when logged in as administrator) (HP deskjet 5552). Do I
really need to be an administrator to see how much ink I have left?

You'd have to address that question to HP, who apparently didn't
properly design their printer utility to work with a multi-user
operating system.
