limited to 1GB in copying files to hard disk

in attempting to copy files to hard disk I get the error
message after about 30mb are copied as follows: Windows
Media Player cannot copy the files because there is not
enough free disk space. Delete some unneeded files on
your hard disk and try again." This inability allows me
to only put 16 or17 average sized songs on a disk when
the disc is rated for twice that much.
