Is there a limit on number of records we can import into Outlook Contacts?

I am currently importing ~1500 records, somewhat standardized in an Excel
file on old Win98 PC, across a Catg-6 cable network in our office, into our
new Dell WinXP PC. Perhpas next time I should copy the Excel file over to
the new PC, I'll bet, and import from that local file!

The Progress screen seems hungm with cute pages floating across the top, but
showing caption,
"Importing Contacts from Pager into 'Contacts'

I'm suspicous of progress, but I did Export all current Contacts to a .pst
file before I started...
And I have closed all spreadsheet handling files on both PC's. So I do not
believe any other software is hanging up the transfer.

Advice?

Hmm, finally Ended Task (after 30-40 minutes). re-opened Outlook & found
22,458 new empty records. I believe we will delete them, close Outlook and
try again.

Most likely cause of extra records is that the "Named Range" in the Excel
worksheet is not set correctly. Make sure it only encompasses the data you
want to import (along with the first header row containing the field names)

Thanks, Karl.

I am guessing you are speaking of naming the whole data set as "Contacts",
as I had seen in the web page "In Microsoft Outlook, how can I import address
information from an Excel workbook into my Contacts list?" at Indiana
University, page

http://www.microsoft.com/wn3/aspx/p...ice/community/en-us/settings.xml&sdgloc=en-US

I have also read another post that tells me to Range Name each field-column
by iits field name, but that is the scheme which had resulted in my mass
mess of blank (or nearly blank) records, many of which had only one active
field per record!

Will try Range Name "Contacts", and go again.

Thanks!

Yep, one Range Name "Contacts", that's the ticket!
Worked like a charm!

Thanks, again, Karl!
