What is the ligthest (uses few resources) MS operating System in ordert to
install .NET (obvious not is XP) ?

Hello Ken,
Well a followup question could be, and how well does that o.s. perform?

IMHO, XP is the best O.S., however, the .NET runtime will work on Win98,ME,2000 Pro. Not sure about the NT versions. I would recommend 2000 Pro, if it is that much of a gain.

Best of luck!

ok my question was oriented to performance and uses of resources because I
have
very poor machines, so I need an OS for a precarious conditions

Hi Ken

I know you said MS OS - how about you go for Mono on Linux??

If you want to do development, I would have to echo RBischoff and say that
XP is the best MS OS...

I'm gonna make some test on linux, but it is not an option for my first
Deployment on 40 Pcs

and I have not been clear, my powerfull target machine is a Pentium II with
128RAM
and the average target machine is a Pentium II with 64 to 128RAM

so before testing with every Ms SO, I´m asking you to save some work , ogh!!

so I think XP is too heavy, dont you

I did some work for a company that needed to do this to keep their
workstations light. They ended up contacting Microsoft about XPE so they
could create a custom XP image that only included the "absolutely
necessary" components. This worked very well for them and their
machines were pretty comparable to what you describe. I don't know the
details but I'm sure you can find something on it.

XPE stands for XP Embedded. Oh, and while its name implies handheld
devices I know it can be used on full PCs as that is what the company
was putting it on. I also think they had to work out some special deal
with MS as XPE is usually an OEM image creation tool. Hope that helps.

There's no difference between the various versions of Windows for
desktops and laptops, as far as I know. (In other words, Windows 2000
is Windows 2000 - there isn't a "laptop version".)
