Lightscribe DVD SATA drive

I'm looking at a Lite-On LH-20A1L-06 DVD SATA drive with Lightscribe...
since I already have two internal SATA hard drives, I guess I'd have to buy
another SATA card to utilize the SATA DVD drive. The drive specs only list
SATA as the interface. I'd guess that probably means it's SATA gen 1 with
1.5Gb/s throughput. Is that a safe assumption to make or might Lightscribe
technology require higher throughput. (I'd hate to buy a SATA gen 1 card
only to find out the throughput wasn't sufficient for Lightscribe.)

Thanks!

Lang

SATA 1.5 has to be faster than PATA and all my PATA lightscribe DVD burners
work just fine. It does take forever to do the lightscribe part, which is
why there are three of them on three different PCs.

Well... obviously I need to look into the LS stuff more... I wonder if
there's a way to speed up the "Lightscribe part?" I wonder if a SATA drive
would help the LS "part" move along faster?

I have tried do do as you wish but with no success & researched lot.
If you find fix, please post.

Why? It depends on your motherboard. My Intel DG965WH and the Dell XPS 410
have six SATA ports on the motherboard. I'm currently running three 500 GB
SATA
hard drives and two of the Lite-On SATA DVD drives and still have one SATA
port
open for future expansion.

Nope, that's a technology limitation. You can select a lower quality and
speed up burn speed but that's about it. It only goes as fast as it goes
and the interface won't help, just as PATA versus SATA won't make a 18x
drive burn any faster than 18x no matter what.

Richard,

Understood... but I don't know how the "Lightscribe" technology works. So I
don't know if one interface has advantages over another interface when it
comes to the "Lightscribe" portion of burning discs. If you're saying, no,
it don't... then I'll accept that and move on... ;-)

Tried what? Use a SATA DVD burner with Lightscribe? Which burner?

Thanks,

Ah... well... I must admit I don't know how many SATA ports are on the
motherboard of my Dell XPS400. Guess I have to crack the box and check! Doh!

How are the Lite-on SATA DVD drives working for you? Do you use Lightscribe
at all?

Thanks,

Lang

It makes no difference whether the drive is SATA, PATA or whatever. It will
work exactly the same and give the same quality results.

Yes, I just started to use it. It works just as it should and the drives
are a dream
come true but I can't wait for color capability. This black-on-gold can
only take
you so far.

What software, if any, did you get with the Lite-on drives? And are you
happy with it or did you buy, or find a freeware, replacement?

Thanks,

Lang

Alreet... I get that... I guess I'm not explaining my concern clearly... I
don't know if the Lightscribe functionality is held to the same constraints
as the data burning portion of creating a LS disc.

Thanks,

Lang

Mine came with Nero 7. I loaded it but don't care for it. so I wiped it
clean
with the cleaner on Nero's site. If you already have DVD burning software
and need a way to burn Lightscribe labels, go to

http://www.lightscribe.com/DownloadSection/windows/index.aspx

download the system software then download the simple labeler.
They're both free and seem to do the job just fine. The labeler is
limited but adequate for the price.

Tom Lake

You don't care for NERO? You must work for Roxio, right? ;0)

I wouldn't give you two cents for Roxio, either! They both have problems
on all our Vista setups.

What "same constraints" - I don't get what you're trying to ask here.

I guess I'm separating the two functionalities... burning the data and
burning the LS disc cover. I also guess you're saying they're one and the
same, but I'm not sure, so I'm continuing the conversation.

Thanks,

Lang

Already d/l'd those zips the other day... and I don't even have a LS drive

Thanks!
