It is an old story. Lighting meets computer. Computer will not turn on.
Are computers or power supplies fused ? Perhaps they have circuit breakers ?

unless you are running hundreds of bulbs on one circuit, it is unlikely that
normal household lighting will draw enough current to break a fuse.

Try reading the guys post Nick.. He said it was hit my LIGHTNING!

Drew: Did anything else blow in the house? You might be lucky and it's just
the PSU that blew, but it could also be they whole PC that died... Check
your home & contents insurance policy and it might be covered...

If there are no lights flash when booting, then the power supply is gone.
The power supply can be tested with a voltmeter.
I would not trust the computer to not have other problems even if changing
the power supply would allow the computer to boot.
Try hooking the hard drive to another computer to remove your data.

Surges caused by lightning are normally not strong
enough or long enough to heat up a fuse hot enough
to blow. Get yourself a decent surge protector.
I use a ZeroSurge in series with a 2800 joule Belkin.

You could check out the PS's web site. They may have troubleshooting
techniques posted that will allow you to determine whether or not the PS is
OK.

Opps, You are right, I meant Lightning not Lighting. I will have to add an idea checker to backup my spell checker.

But the question remains unanswered:

Do PC power supplies have fuses or circuit breakers or neither ??

Most of the PC power supplies that I have opened have soldered fuses on them. Changeable? Yes, if you know what you're doing.

There is usually a fuse (soldered) in the PSU .. however you'll be damn
lucky .. almost a first - if you =just= blew the fuse .. a good
lightning surge usually takes out the PSU entirely, and often the
motherboard, cpu, and RAM as well .. on a really bad day it will have
fried the hard drive(s) too. (electronics - the magnetic bit is usually
recoverable, if you're willing to pay for it).

A surge suppresser (Belkin do some reasonable ones) is a good investment
... although they still won't stop a =big= surge .. nothing will help you
against a direct hit on the power cables .. and your phone/cable/dsl
line is another way for the computer to get fried.

WARNING: UNLESS PROPERLY TRAINED, DO NOT OPEN THE POWER SUPPLY!
Power supplies contain capacitors which store electricity (even after the power supply is unplugged. Which it should be in the first place). Although I'm not sure of the severity, opening and touching components inside the power supply could expose you to dangerous amounts of electricity.
