I have a new Canon BC-02 cartridge.

When it runs out of ink, I intend to refill it.

I may be able to buy some relativelly cheap ink (correct type), but how
long will it keep before it degrades.

Thanks

It might exceed your own life expectancy.

I have seen information from some ink vendors that indicate a safe two year
shelf life. That may be somewhat conservative, but I tend to buy in small
enough containers to keep within the two year shelf life. Even with two or
four ounce quantities you will save a great deal over Canon OEM inks. On
the other hand, if you are printing very large, frequent print runs you
might buy greater quantities.

Despite what that idiot Troll Milou say's, I am at this time using third
party ink well over eighteen months old, it's not so much how old but what
quality, I am afraid that is down to trial and error and the good advice of
folks in this group, I have been lucky so far in that I have a supplier who
sells what appears to be good ink cheap but that's for Epson. I am sure the
same goes for Canon and refilling Canon.

Shooter - Milou a troll????? I hate to see you paint him with the same
"troll" paintbrush as our very own Troll, MK! I haven't seen troll-like
responses from Milou at all.

Thank you, a good, helpful post.

Can anyone recommend a good substitute for the OEM Canon BC-02 black
ink, that is cheaper, but of good quality?

Thanks

Most of the compatible inks for this particular cartridge will be fine, and you
should be able to refill several times provided the printhead is not allowed to
dry out.
Inks for this cartridge have been available for some years and are very stable.
There are some kits available that come with syringes and instructions (Inktec
make some if I remember correctly).
