Hi,

what is better, a Scanner with LiDE-technic (LED indirect exposure) oder
a scanner with a ccd-Technic? Or better: What are the advantages and
disadvantages of both methods?

Thanks for answers,
Andre

It is usually true that the more you pay, the better something is. A
CCD scanner will generally be more expensive than a CIS (contact
image sensor) or LiDE scanner. As for which is better, the answer
will revolve around your needs and expectations of a scanner. I
personally would say the CCD scanner is going to be better. But, do
you need to spend the extra money if you don't need the extra
capabilities available from such a scanner.

LiDE Scanners
Scanning element is more compact making the scanner much more compact
and slim-line.
If you only plan to scan documents and photos that do not require a
any depth perception, then an affordable LiDE scanner may be the way
to go.

Capable of achieving higher quality. Ability to scan 3-D objects.
The scanning elements are larger and therefore the scanner itself
must be larger as well. Most of the CCD scanners have film scanning
capability for scanning film and slides.

I would suggest to check out www.scantips.com/chap3c.html
for some detailed information regarding CIS vs CCD.

My vote for an affordable scanner with great quality would be the
CanoScan 8400F.

the LIDE scanner also has no geometric distortion, which is useful for
maps if you are into that sort of thing (but you will see the crinkles as
soft unless you keep the map right on the glass).

The CCD scanner will always have some distortion - which matters not at
all for some subject matter.
