I had a Thinkpad that crashed on me. I had previously upgraded to XP Pro. I
am not going to use the Thinkpad any longer. Can I use the XP Pro and
upgrade my desktop (running Windows 2000)?

Hi,

If it's a retail version of WinXP Pro, then yes.

Did u register it with Microsoft?

Registration has nothing to do with usability, that is
activation when installed in another computer. But from
the licensing standpoint, it is legal to install into
another computer once Windows XP is removed from the other
computer (or if the computer is totally decommissioned).
There might not be an issue for activating remotely; if
there is, it can be done by telephone.
