I am looking to implement a corporate network using
windows 2000 advanced server. I would like to have all
workstations running as terminals and have all
workstations running their applications from the server.

My question is in regards to licensing. According to my
understanding from Microsoft's website, if I upgrade all
workstations to windows 2000 pro, then I will NOT need to
purchase Terminal Service CALs for each workstations.
However, someone thought I was wrong and that if you
intend to run Windows 2000 Terminal Services as an
Application Server then I would still need to purchase the
Terminal Service Licenses even if they are running W2kPro

So... do I need Terminal Service CALs even if I do upgrade
all stations to windows 2000 pro?

You are right. If all workstations run W2K Pro or XP Pro and your
Terminal Server runs W2K TS, you do not need to buy TS CALs. You
must however install and activate a Terminal Services Licensing
Server (on the Domain Controller if you are in a W2K domain),
since it is the LS that issues the free TS CALs to these clients.

Be aware that if you upgrade the TS to Windows 2003, then you must
buy TS CALs for *all* clients.
