Licensing for XP Home

I was told by my Copmputer manufactorure (Major Company)
That a single copy of XP Home can be installed and
activated on upto 5 machines. Is this True

No.

Only if you buy a Volume License for 5 machine or more may you use the
product on multiple machines.
If you purchased the Windows XP Home retail then you certainly cannot
install it on more then one PC as per the End User License Agreement (EULA)
that you agree to be bound by when you install the product.

No, it's not true. I suggest you avoid dealing with that company
in the future; they're either exceedingly incompetent, or dishonest.

As it has *always* been with *all* Microsoft operating systems,
it's necessary (to be in compliance with both the EULA and copyright
laws, if not technically) to purchase one WinXP license for each
computer on which it is installed. The only way in which WinXP
licensing differs from that of earlier versions of Windows is that
Microsoft has finally added a copy protection and anti-theft
mechanism, Product Activation, to prevent (or at least make more
difficult) the sort of multiple installations you're asking about.

You may have 5 concurrent connections to Windows XP Home. I am sure that is
what the manufacturer was talking about. You just heard what you wanted to.
