How do the TS license work. I noticed on our server it
says that 3 were issued out of our license pack of 5 and
they all have expiration dates, I though only the temp
licenses had expiration dates. Do they expire and then
get re-issued?

Thanks

Yes, this is by design. All TS CALs have expiration dates, also
"permanent" TS CALs. They expire after 52-89 days.

The reason behind this is to make sure that licenses don't get
"lost" forever, when you discard a client device.
After the expiration date, if the client does not connect anymore
(client is discarded), the license is automatically returned to
the Licensing Server and becomes available again for a new client.

If the client still uses the TS, then it automatically tries to
renew the license 7 days before the expiration date.

That makes sense..Thanks for the reply.

Is there a way to force the expiration date. i.e. if
someone leaves how can I get the license back before 52-
89 days.

No, you would have to uninstall/reinstall TSL.

You can try setting your clock ahead on the server but
that will probably break kerberos causing you much more
problems then just waiting it out.

No, you can't. And if you find yourself in a situation where you
want or need to do this, it means that you have used, at least
during a time period, more clients than you have TS CALs.

Since the expiration time is 89 days at the maximum, and a
temporary license lasts 90 days, you can always replace one client
with another without needing more than a single TS CAL.
