I think I know the answer to this question, but it never
hurts to ask. I have a machine that the hard drive has
crashed. It is running Windows 2000. The Key from the
original box is taped on the top of the machine. I do not
have the the original installation CD. Is it possible to
get a copy of Windows 2000 and use that key? Thanks Bob

Yes, I believe so. The COA stuck on the machine is your license, not the CD
itself. If you have another copy, you can use it or borrow one from
somebody and burn a backup copy.. as long as you are licensed I don't think
it matters how you get the media. You might also be able to get the
manufacturer to send you a media kit if you call and ask nice.. :)

This is correct, but you have to be aware that there are several different
types of media around (retail, OEM, customised OEM that only installs on the
same make of machine, MSDN, etc) and they don't accept each other's keys.

As long as you're licensed correctly and you can get hold of the correct CD
for your key, you're fine.
